How does therapy actually help?
Sex therapy is a form of talk therapy that helps you gain insight into your self-defeating thoughts, maladaptive behavior patterns, and your identity, thus increasing self-esteem and enhancing how you interact with others.
Through the work we do in therapy, we help you understand the origin of whatever you’re struggling with, make connections between the past and the present, and make changes to your current situation. After some time in therapy, people generally feel happier, less weighed down, and less boxed in by their problems.
Our hope is that, through the work you do in therapy, you’ll come to feel more free, unburdened by what was troubling you, and self aware, so you’re more confident and at ease with yourself and more able to navigate challenges in the future.
What happens in therapy?
Sex therapy is talk therapy that is conducted in a safe and confidential setting by a trained and licensed therapist.
This environment provides a space for you to talk about any challenges, concerns, or interests. Whether your concerns are sexual, relational, or individual in nature, we’ll assess your situation, determine some treatment goals, and help you work through what might be getting in your way.
Our therapists use an eclectic approach of therapeutic models, techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and EMDR to help you move forward. We are also trained to provide education about anatomy and physiology, physical response, and arousal patterns, and other pertinent sexual information that may be specific to your concerns.*
*Under no circumstances does sex therapy involve any sexual or inappropriate contact between the therapist and the client.

Step 1:
Gather your history.
Let’s work together to figure out how you have become who you are today.
What biological, psychological, and social factors have contributed to who you are, how you think, how you see the world, and where you want to go?
Step 2:
Making Connections.
Let’s sort it all out.
Think of a big table with photos of your life events. Together we will make piles – the good, the bad, the ugly. We’ll talk through the positive people and events in your life, and we’ll do the same with the negative.
Step 3:
Make Change.
Here we look at your life and see what needs to be added or subtracted in order to increase your happiness, satisfaction, and self-esteem.
This part is like cooking: You have something simmering on the stove, and, when you taste it, it’s not quite right. Maybe it needs a little salt, maybe some red pepper flakes for a kick. We’ll find the right recipe for you.
Step 4:
Maintenance.
Here’s where we check in about the plan we have created.
Behavioral change is difficult, so patience, dedication, and determination are key here. The situations and relationships in our lives are complex. They took (insert how old you are) many years to get that way, and they’ll take some time to change.
The good news is that slow change is lasting change.
